Toddler Comunity
Children from 2 to 3 years
The toddler community is an environment designed to meet the changing needs of the child from about 18 months to 3 years old. Children learn to be part of the community, helping to take care of the environment and to prepare food for their friends. They also begin to gain independence in caring for their own needs, and to make choices.
This group has 16 children age from 2 to 3 years. The teacher ratio is 1 teacher to 4 children.
Our programme is organised into 7 areas:
- Practical Life
- Eye-Hand co-ordination
- Language
- Eating / Preparing Food
- Art
- Music & Singing
- Creative & Imagination; plus Outdoors
Practical Life
Practical Life activities are designed to help the child to focus on mastering the skills to do the day to day activities required for independent living. The activities include dressing frames (buttons, zips etc.), washing hands, preparing food, cleaning tables, dressing themselves etc.
Eye-Hand co-ordination
This area offers a range of activities from posting activities to more complex activities such as threading large beads to threading small beads, simple inset and jigsaw puzzles to 12-15 pieces, containers to open and close, gluing and learning to use scissors etc. These activities allow your little one to use two hands to work together to gain fine motor skills, and develop their concentration when working on activities.
Language
This area has interesting objects to talk about, picture posters, picture cards of their familiar and wider environment, and picture books at the book corner. Children have access to the book corner to look at the picture by themselves. Language is brought to life daily with songs, stories, rhymes. A display of family photos, encourages the children to learn the names of members of their families.
Eating / Preparing Food
We use low table and chairs. All children sit together to enjoy their meal time at the table. They use a folk or spoon to eat, and pour water or milk into their glasses. They will ask for more food if they want to. After meals, they help to tidy up their table and put things away. They enjoy being independent and eating socially with their friends in their community.
Also, children of this age like to help; they help to prepare snack, and set up table for snack and lunch.
Art
This area has activities such as play dough; painting on an easel or large paper, mark making, collage etc. The activities give children more opportunities to explore different textures, materials, colour, and also gain greater control of a variety of tools such as pencils, crayons, chalks, paintbrushes and cutting tools etc.
Music / Singing
Children love music and singing, we have music groups every day in the Toddler Community. We play with simple musical instruments, sing songs and dance along the music etc. The most popular activity is action songs. Children love to follow the songs and do the actions while singing.
Twice a week, a piano teacher comes to play piano in the music sessions. If the children are interested, they are invited to play the keys on the piano with Piano teacher.
Creative / Imaginative area
In this area, we have a selection of construction activities such as Lego, building blocks, train set etc. Children join pieces together to balance and build. They also begin to learn to how to work together with their peers in small groups.
We also have a role play corner, where children can dress up and pretend to be someone else, whilst exploring roles such as fire fighters, doctors and book/film characters.
Outdoors
The outdoor area provides an extension of the indoor activities to cover the 7 areas. The activities include equipment for pushing, balancing, a climbing frame and slide, a tunnel, building with large blocks and balls etc.
